Javanese Dancers Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABAB CAAC DEDE FGHF DIDJ

Twitched strings the clang of metal beaten drumsA
Dull shrill continuous disquietingB
And now the stealthy dancer comesA
Undulantly with cat like steps that clingB
-
Smiling between her painted lids a smileC
Motionless unintelligible she twinesA
Her fingers into mazy linesA
The scarves across her fingers twine the whileC
-
One two three four glide forth and to and froD
Delicately and imperceptiblyE
Now swaying gently in a rowD
Now interthreading slow and rhythmicallyE
-
Still with fixed eyes monotonously stillF
Mysteriously with smiles inanimateG
With lingering feet that undulateH
With sinuous fingers spectral hands that thrillF
-
In measure while the gnats of music whirrD
The little amber coloured dancers moveI
Like painted idols seen to stirD
By the idolators in a magic groveJ
