At Tarragona Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis
Rhyme Scheme: ABABCDCDEFEFGHGHIJIK LMLMIf I could know but when and why | A |
This piece of thoughtless dust begins | B |
To think and straightway I am I | A |
And these bright hopes and these brave sins | B |
That have been freer than the air | C |
Circle their freedom with my span | D |
If I could know but why this care | C |
Is mine and not the care or man | D |
Why thus unwilling I rejoice | E |
And will the good I do not do | F |
And with the same particular voice | E |
Speak the old folly and the new | F |
If I could know seeing my soul | G |
A white ship with a bending sail | H |
Rudderless and without a goal | G |
Fly seaward humble to the gale | H |
Why knowing not from whence I came | I |
Nor why I seek I know not what | J |
I bear this heavy separate name | I |
While winds and waters bear it not | K |
And why the unlimited earth delights | L |
In life not knowing breath from breath | M |
While I that count my days and nights | L |
Fear thought in life and life in death | M |
