Oh damsel fair at the Porte MaillotB
With the soft blue eyes that haunt me soC
Pray what should I doB
When a girl like youB
Bestows her smile her glance and her sighD
On the first fond fool that is passing byD
Who listens and longs as the sweet words flowC
From her pretty red lips at the Porte MaillotB

There were lips as red ere you were bornE
Now wreathed in smiles now curled in scornE
And other bright eyesF
With their truth and liesF
That broke the heart and turned the brainG
Of many a tender lovelorn swainG
But never I ween brought half the woeC
That comes from the lips at the Porte MaillotB

A charming picture there you standB
A perfect work from a master's handB
With your face so fairH
And your wondrous hairH
Your glorious color your light and shadeB
And your classic head that the gods have madeB
Your cheeks with crimson all aglowC
As you wait for a lover at the Porte MaillotB

There are gorgeous tints in the jeweled crownI
There are brilliant shades when the sun goes downI
But your lips vieD
With the western skyD
And give to the world so rare a hueB
That the painter must learn his art anewB
And the sunset borrow a brighter glowC
From the lips of the girl at the Porte MaillotB

Come tell me truly fair haired youthJ
Do her eyes flash love her lips speak truthJ
Or does she beguileK
With her glance and smileK
And burn you spurn you all day longL
With a Circe's art and a Siren's songL
Ah would that your foolish heart might knowC
The lie in the heart at the Porte MaillotB
