Wen Gott Betrügt, Ist Wohl Betrogen. Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABABCDEFGEEEEEHEGEEH AA IIJJII

Is it true ye gods who treat usA
As the gambling fool is treatedB
O ye who ever cheat usA
And let us feel we're cheatedB
Is it true that poetical powerC
The gift of heaven the dowerD
Of Apollo and the NineE
The inborn sense 'the vision and the faculty divine 'F
All we glorify and blessG
In our rapturous exaltationE
All invention and creationE
Exuberance of fancy and sublime imaginationE
All a poet's fame is built onE
The fame of Shakespeare MiltonE
Of Wordsworth Byron ShelleyH
Is in reason's grave precisionE
Nothing more nothing lessG
Than a peculiar conformationE
Constitution and conditionE
Of the brain and of the bellyH
Is it true ye gods who cheat usA
And that 's the way ye treat usA
-
Oh say it all who think itI
Look straight and never blink itI
If it is so let it be soJ
And we will all agree soJ
But the plot has counterplotI
It may be and yet be notI
