The Stream Of Life Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABCB DEFE GHIH JEKE IACA LEME

O stream descending to the seaA
Thy mossy banks betweenB
The flow'rets blow the grasses growC
The leafy trees are greenB
-
In garden plots the children playD
The fields the labourers tillE
And houses stand on either handF
And thou descendest stillE
-
O life descending into deathG
Our waking eyes beholdH
Parent and friend thy lapse attendI
Companions young and oldH
-
Strong purposes our mind possessJ
Our hearts affections fillE
We toil and earn we seek and learnK
And thou descendest stillE
-
O end to which our currents tendI
Inevitable seaA
To which we flow what do we knowC
What shall we guess of theeA
-
A roar we hear upon thy shoreL
As we our course fulfilE
Scarce we divine a sun will shineM
And be above us stillE
