The Mighty Ocean Rolls And Raves Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: AABC DDEE FFGG HHIJ KKLL MMBC NNOO PPQQ RRLL

The mighty ocean rolls and ravesA
To part us with its angry wavesA
But arch on arch from shore to shoreB
In a vast fabric reaching o'erC
-
With careful labours daily wroughtD
By steady hope and tender thoughtD
The wide and weltering waste aboveE
Our hearts have bridged it with their loveE
-
There fond anticipations flyF
To rear the growing structure highF
Dear memories upon either sideG
Combine to make it large and wideG
-
There happy fancies day by dayH
New courses sedulously layH
There soft solicitudes sweet fearsI
And doubts accumulate and tearsJ
-
While the pure purpose of the soulK
To form of many parts a wholeK
To make them strong and hold them trueL
From end to end is carried throughL
-
Then when the waters war betweenM
Upon the masonry unseenM
Secure and swift from shore to shoreB
With silent footfall travelling o'erC
-
Our sundered spirits come and goN
Hither and thither to and froN
Pass and repass now linger nearO
Now part anew to reappearO
-
With motions of a glad surpriseP
We meet each other's wondering eyesP
At work at play when people talkQ
And when we sleep and when we walkQ
-
Each dawning day my eyelids seeR
You come methinks across to meR
And I at every hour anewL
Could dream I travelled o'er to youL
