My beloved is it nothingA
Though we meet not neither canB
That I see thee and thou meC
That we see and see we seeC
When I see I also feel theeC
Is it nothing my belovedD
-
Thy luminous clear beautyC
Brightens on me in my nightE
I withdraw into my darknessF
To allure thee into lightE
About me and upon me I feel them pass and stayG
About me deep into me every lucid tender rayG
And thou thou also feelestG
When thou stealestG
Shamefaced and half afraidG
To the chamber of thy shadeG
Thou in thy turnH
Thou too feelestG
Something follow something yearnH
A full orb blaze and burnH
-
My full orb upon thineI
As thine erst gently smilingA
Softly wooing sweetly wilingA
Gleamed on mineI
So mine on thine in turnH
When thou feelest blaze and burnH
Is it nothing my belovedG
-
My beloved is it nothingA
When I see thee and thou meC
When we each other seeC
Is it nothing my belovedG
-
Closer closer come unto meC
Shall I see thee and no moreJ
I can see thee is that allK
Let me alsoL
Let me feel theeC
Closer closer my belovedG
Come unto me come to me comeM
O cruel cruel lot still thou rollest stayest notG
Lookest onward look'st beforeJ
Yet I follow evermoreJ
Oh cold and cruel fate thou rollest on thy wayG
Scarcely lookest will not stayG
From thine alien wayG
-
The inevitable motionN
Bears me forth upon the lineI
Whose course I cannot seeC
I must move as it conveys meC
Evermore It so must beC
-
O cold one and I round theeC
Revolve round only theeC
Straining ever to be nearerO
While thou evadest stillP
Repellest still O cold oneN
Nay but closer closer closerO
My beloved come come comeM
-
The inevitable motionN
Carries both upon its lineI
Also you as well as meC
What is best and what is strongestG
We obey It so must beC
-
Cruel cruel didst thou onlyC
Feel as I feel evermoreJ
A force though in not of meC
Drawing inward in in inQ
-
Yea thou shalt though ere all endethC
Thou shalt feel me closer closerO
My beloved close close to theeC
Come to thee come come comeM
-
The inevitable motionN
Bears us both upon its lineI
Together you as meC
Together and asunderO
Evermore It so must beC
