Rhyme Scheme: ABAB CDCD EBEB FGFG

SAY not the struggle naught availethA
nbsp nbsp nbsp The labour and the wounds are vainB
The enemy faints not nor failethA
nbsp nbsp nbsp And as things have been they remainB
-
If hopes were dupes fears may be liarsC
nbsp nbsp nbsp It may be in yon smoke conceal'dD
Your comrades chase e'en now the fliersC
nbsp nbsp nbsp And but for you possess the fieldD
-
For while the tired waves vainly breakingE
nbsp nbsp nbsp Seem here no painful inch to gainB
Far back through creeks and inlets makingE
nbsp nbsp nbsp Comes silent flooding in the mainB
-
And not by eastern windows onlyF
nbsp nbsp nbsp When daylight comes comes in the lightG
In front the sun climbs slow how slowlyF
nbsp nbsp nbsp But westward look the land is brightG
