Qua Cursum Ventus Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABAA CACA DADA AAAA EAFA CAGA AHCH

As ships becalm'd at eve that layA
With canvas drooping side by sideB
Two towers of sail at dawn of dayA
Are scarce long leagues apart descriedA
-
When fell the night upsprung the breezeC
And all the darkling hours they pliedA
Nor dreamt but each the self same seasC
By each was cleaving side by sideA
-
E'en so but why the tale revealD
Of those whom year by year unchang'dA
Brief absence join'd anew to feelD
Astounded soul from soul estrang'dA
-
At dead of night their sails were fill'dA
And onward each rejoicing steer'dA
Ah neither blame for neither will'dA
Or wist what first with dawn appear'dA
-
To veer how vain On onward strainE
Brave barks In light in darkness tooA
Through winds and tides one compass guidesF
To that and your own selves be trueA
-
But O blithe breeze and O great seasC
Though ne'er that earliest parting pastA
On your wide plain they join againG
Together lead them home at lastA
-
One port methought alike they soughtA
One purpose hold where'er they fareH
O bounding breeze O rushing seasC
At last at last unite them thereH
