Myself My SongA
HERE aloof I take my standB
Alien iconoclastC
Poet of a newer landB
Confident aggressive lonelyD
Product of the present onlyD
Thinking nothing of the pastC
If some word of mine abideE
Yet no immortalityD
Looks my soul for satisfiedE
Though my voice be evanescentF
If it sing the pregnant presentF
And the birth that is to beD
All the beauty that has beenG
All of wisdom's overplusH
Has been given me to gleanI
In Earth's story clear one page isH
This the widest of the agesH
Virile vast tumultuousH
I shall croon no love song oldJ
Dream no memory of wrongA
Build no mighty epic boldJ
From my forge I send them flyingK
Fragments glowing once and dyingK
Scattered sparks of molten songA
-
If I bring no gospel brightL
Still my little stream of songA
Quavers thinly through the nightL
Burdened with a broken yearningK
Still persistent though discerningK
Life has shadows sorrow wrongA
So my life shall be my verseH
Here's my record stand or fall IM
Failure may be mine or worseH
In the twilight land of livingK
With no doubt and no misgivingK
Here's my life blood breath and allN
