Love And Life Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis
Rhyme Scheme: ABCCBBCCBBBBBBB ABDDBBDDBEFECFCI | A |
AS some faint wisp of fragrance floating wide | B |
A pennant perfume on the evening air | C |
From a walled garden flower filled and fair | C |
To drape a sudden beauty long denied | B |
Upon life's highway desolate and dried | B |
So come you to me as I unaware | C |
Bend my strict eyes upon my pathway bare | C |
But at your presence straight I turn aside | B |
And passing in the garden see uncurled | B |
The heart of hidden beauty in the world | B |
And love as life's one blossom is revealed | B |
My backward glance your floating tresses blind | B |
About my struggling hopes your white arms wind | B |
And I have yielded but how sweet to yield | B |
- | |
II | A |
Yet in the prison of the garden bound | B |
The sluggish perfumes o'er my spirit fall | D |
And I lie languid in their sweetness' thrall | D |
Beneath the fragrance of much beauty drowned | B |
When through the fountain's murmur lo a sound | B |
Insistent and reproachful O'er the wall | D |
Drops a faint echo of the Earth's deep call | D |
And I leap upright from the rose strewn ground | B |
Outside the bracing wind sings clean and chill | E |
Outside are tasks to do blows to be struck | F |
And I must toil the dreary highway till | E |
It broadens to the fields of death Yet ere | C |
I leave for aye your perfumed close I pluck | F |
A shrivelled blossom that I kiss and wear | C |
