Rhyme Scheme: AABCCBAACCCCAADEEDCC CAAC DDFGGFEHCEECIICAAC

YOU ask me why I love herA
Not a charm can you discoverA
Would you seeB
The heart that a shut rose isC
And whose beauty ne'er unclosesC
Save for meB
She is not rich or cleverA
But her speeches thrill me everA
And with blissC
My heart her whisper fluttersC
Though the wisest word she uttersC
Is a kissC
All evil things have shunned herA
And with a wide eyed wonderA
Is she taskedD
What lavish god has givenE
In her earth so much of heavenE
All unaskedD
She has no gifts or gracesC
But the gladness in her face isC
Sought of kingsC
She cannot chant a measureA
But her heart with a grave pleasureA
Ever singsC
-
Her gown is of the whitestD
But the hem is soiled the slightestD
Little worthF
She has no wings to fly withG
And she prefers to hie withG
Me on earthF
There is no hint of heavenE
Or glimpse of deep thought evenH
In her eyesC
She is warm and she is humanE
Just a weak and wilful womanE
Not too wiseC
Her thousand beauties singingI
I have not said how clingingI
Are her armsC
But not loved and not the loverA
Dare you ever hope discoverA
Half her charmsC
