Rhyme Scheme: ABAB CDCD EFEF GHGH

There ain't no leaves to turn to goldA
There ain't a tree in sightB
In other ways the herder's toldA
October's come all rightB
-
Jest like ten thousand souls all lostC
The wind howls ain't it niceD
The water hole is froze acrostC
With crinkly crackly iceD
-
The sheep bed down before the sunE
Has hit the rim of hillsF
The prairie wolves are on the runE
To make their nightly killsF
-
But kyards are sayin' SolitaireG
The bacon's fryin' primeH
The old sheep wagon's free from careG
In late October timeH
