Why I Am Poor Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABABCDCDEAEAEE

Because my friends I have a savage gleeA
In drinking to the dregs the draughts of lifeB
And love to feel my spirit spreading freeA
Stretching itself through every calm and strifeB
Or stealing through the secret souls of othersC
Because thank God I'm made of simple stuffD
And prize the friendship of my ragged brothersC
Because I love my liberty enoughD
To starve for it at times because forsoothE
I do not flout my manhood for a feeA
Or care a straw for anything but TruthE
And the warm pulse of human sympathyA
Because in brief I want no worldly wealthE
But riches of the soul and buoyant healthE
