To The Prophetic Soul Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABAB CDCD EFEF GHGH IFIF JBJB KLKL

What are these bustlers at the gateA
Of now or yesterdayB
These playthings in the hand of FateA
That pass and point no wayB
-
These clinging bubbles whose mock firesC
For ever dance and gleamD
Vain foam that gathers and expiresC
Upon the world's dark streamD
-
These gropers betwixt right and wrongE
That seek an unknown goalF
Most ignorant when they seem most strongE
What are they then O SoulF
-
That thou shouldst covet overmuchG
A tenderer range of heartH
And yet at every dreamed of touchG
So tremulously startH
-
Thou with that hatred ever newI
Of the world's base controlF
That vision of the large and trueI
That quickness of the soulF
-
Nay for they are not of thy kindJ
But in a rarer clayB
God dowered thee with an alien mindJ
Thou canst not be as theyB
-
Be strong therefore resume thy loadK
And forward stone by stoneL
Go singing though the glorious roadK
Thou travellest aloneL
