The Return Of The Year Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABAB CDED FGHG IJIJ KLIL MNMN OPOQ RSRS

Again the warm bare earth the noonA
That hangs upon her healing scarsB
The midnight round the great red moonA
The mother with her brood of starsB
-
The mist rack and the wakening rainC
Blown soft in many a forest wayD
The yellowing elm trees and againE
The blood root in its sheath of grayD
-
The vesper sparrow's song the stressF
Of yearning notes that gush and streamG
The lyric joy the tendernessH
And once again the dream the dreamG
-
A touch of far off joy and powerI
A something it is life to learnJ
Comes back to earth and one short hourI
The glamours of the gods returnJ
-
This life's old mood and cult of careK
Falls smitten by an older truthL
And the gray world wins back to herI
The rapture of her vanished youthL
-
Dead thoughts revive and he that heedsM
Shall hear as by a spirit ledN
A song among the golden reedsM
The gods are vanished but not deadN
-
For one short hour unseen yet nearO
They haunt us a forgotten moodP
A glory upon mead and mereO
A magic in the leafless woodQ
-
At morning we shall catch the glowR
Of Dian's quiver on the hillS
And somewhere in the glades I knowR
That Pan is at his piping stillS
