The Clearer Self Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABAC DEDE FGFG HIHI JHKH HLHL

Before me grew the human soulA
And after I am dead and goneB
Through grades of effort and controlA
The marvellous work shall still go onC
-
Each mortal in his little spanD
Hath only lived if he have shownE
What greatness there can be in manD
Above the measured and the knownE
-
How through the ancient layers of nightF
In gradual victory secureG
Grows ever with increasing lightF
The Energy serene and pureG
-
The Soul that from a monstrous pastH
From age to age from hour to hourI
Feels upward to some height at lastH
Of unimagined grace and powerI
-
Though yet the sacred fire be dullJ
In folds of thwarting matter furledH
Ere death be nigh while life is fullK
O Master Spirit of the worldH
-
Grant me to know to seek to findH
In some small measure though it beL
Emerging from the waste and blindH
The clearer self the grander meL
