The Better Day Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABAB CDCD EFEF GHGH IJIJ

Harsh thoughts blind angers and fierce handsA
That keep this restless world at strifeB
Mean passions that like choking sandsA
Perplex the stream of lifeB
-
Pride and hot envy and cold greedC
The cankers of the loftier willD
What if ye triumph and yet bleedC
Ah can ye not be stillD
-
Oh shall there be no space no timeE
No century of weal in storeF
No freehold in a nobler climeE
Where men shall strive no moreF
-
Where every motion of the heartG
Shall serve the spirit's master callH
Where self shall be the unseen partG
And human kindness allH
-
Or shall we but by fits and gleamsI
Sink satisfied and cease to raveJ
Find love but in the rest of dreamsI
And peace but in the graveJ
