Sunset Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis
Rhyme Scheme: ABCABC DEFE GHGHII JJKK LMLMNN NNEEEEFrom this windy bridge at rest | A |
In some former curious hour | B |
We have watched the city's hue | C |
All along the orange west | A |
Cupola and pointed tower | B |
Darken into solid blue | C |
- | |
Tho' the biting north wind breaks | D |
Full across this drifted hold | E |
Let us stand with iced cheeks | F |
Watching westward as of old | E |
- | |
Past the violet mountain head | G |
To the farthest fringe of pine | H |
Where far off the purple red | G |
Narrows to a dusky line | H |
And the last pale splendours die | I |
Slowly from the olive sky | I |
- | |
Till the thin clouds wear away | J |
Into threads of purple gray | J |
And the sudden stars between | K |
Brighten in the pallid green | K |
- | |
Till above the spacious east | L |
Slow returned one by one | M |
Like pale prisoners released | L |
From the dungeons of the sun | M |
Capella and her train appear | N |
In the glittering Charioteer | N |
- | |
Till the rounded moon shall grow | N |
Great above the eastern snow | N |
Shining into burnished gold | E |
And the silver earth outrolled | E |
In the misty yellow light | E |
Shall take on the width of night | E |
