| I watch them swiftly come and go | B |
| Or round the leafless wood | C |
| Like flurries of wind driven snow | B |
| Revolving in perpetual flight | A |
| A changing multitude | D |

| Nearer and nearer still they sway | E |
| And scattering in a circled sweep | F |
| Rush down without a sound | G |
| And now I see them peer and peep | F |
| Across yon level bleak and gray | E |
| Searching the frozen ground | G |

| And makes a sudden rustling there | I |
| And then they drop their play | E |
| Flash up into the sunless air | I |
