O Power to whom this earthly climeA
Is but an atom in the wholeB
O Poet heart of Space and TimeA
O Maker and Immortal SoulB
Within whose glowing rings are boundC
Out of whose sleepless heart had birthD
The cloudy blue the starry roundC
And this small miracle of earthD
-
Who liv'st in every living thingE
And all things are thy script and chartF
Who rid'st upon the eagle's wingE
And yearnest in the human heartF
O Riddle with a single clueG
Love deathless protean secureH
The ever old the ever newG
O Energy serene and pureH
-
Thou who art also part of meA
Whose glory I have sometime seenI
O Vision of the Ought to beA
O Memory of the Might have beenJ
I have had glimpses of thy wayK
And moved with winds and walked with starsL
But weary I have fallen astrayK
And wounded who shall count my scarsL
-
O Master all my strength is goneM
Unto the very earth I bowN
I have no light to lead me onO
With aching heart and burning browN
I lie as one that travailethD
In sorrow more than he can bearP
I sit in darkness as of deathD
And scatter dust upon my hairP
-
The God within my soul hath sleptQ
And I have shamed the nobler ruleR
O Master I have whined and creptQ
O Spirit I have played the foolR
Like him of old upon whose headS
His follies hung in dark arrearsT
I groan and travail in my bedS
And water it with bitter tearsU
-
I stand upon thy mountain headsV
And gaze until mine eyes are dimA
The golden morning glows and spreadsV
The hoary vapours break and swimA
I see thy blossoming fields divineW
Thy shining clouds thy blessed treesX
And then that broken soul of mineW
How much less beautiful than theseX
-
O Spirit passionless but kindY
Is there in all the world I cryZ
Another one so base and blindY
Another one so weak as IZ
O Power unchangeable but justA2
Impute this one good thing to meA
I sink my spirit to the dustA2
In utter dumb humilityA
