Heat Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABABCDED FGFGHIJI KEKELMNM OPOPQRER SOSOTOTO OOOOFSFU

From plains that reel to southward dimA
The road runs by me white and bareB
Up the steep hill it seems to swimA
Beyond and melt into the glareB
Upward half way or it may beC
Nearer the summit slowly stealsD
A hay cart moving dustilyE
With idly clacking wheelsD
-
By his cart's side the wagonerF
Is slouching slowly at his easeG
Half hidden in the windless blurF
Of white dust puffing to his kneesG
This wagon on the height aboveH
From sky to sky on either handI
Is the sole thing that seems to moveJ
In all the heat held landI
-
Beyond me in the fields the sunK
Soaks in the grass and hath his willE
I count the marguerites one by oneK
Even the buttercups are stillE
On the brook yonder not a breathL
Disturbs the spider at the midgeM
The water bugs draw close beneathN
The cool gloom of the bridgeM
-
Where the far elm tree shadows floodO
Dark patches in the burning grassP
The cows each with her peaceful cudO
Lie waiting for the heat to passP
From somewhere on the slope near byQ
Into the pale depth of the noonR
A wandering thrush slides leisurelyE
His thin revolving tuneR
-
In intervals of dreams I hearS
The cricket from the droughty groundO
The grass hoppers spin into mine earS
A small innumerable soundO
I lift my eyes somewhat to gazeT
The burning sky line blinds my sightO
The woods far off are blue with hazeT
The hills are drenched in lightO
-
And yet to me not this or thatO
Is always sharp or always sweetO
In the sloped shadow of my hatO
I lean at rest and drain the heatO
Nay more I think some blessed powerF
Hath brought me wandering idly hereS
In the full furnace of this hourF
My thoughts grow keen and clearU
