Despondency Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABBAABBA CDCDCD

Slow figures in some live remorseless friezeA
The approaching days escapeless and unguessedB
With mask and shroud impenetrably dressedB
Time whose inexorable destiniesA
Bear down upon us like impending seasA
And the huge presence of the world at bestB
A sightless giant wandering without restB
Aged and mad with many miseriesA
-
The weight and measure of these things who knowsC
Resting at times beside life's thought swept streamD
Sobered and stunned with unexpected blowsC
We scarcely hear the uproar life doth seemD
Save for the certain nearness of its woesC
Vain and phantasmal as a sick man's dreamD
