Rhyme Scheme: ABBCCA DEEFFD GHHIIG JKKLLM NOOPPN DQQOOD

Now overheadA
Where the rivulet loiters and stopsB
The bittersweet hangs from the topsB
Of the alders and cherriesC
Its bunches of beautiful berriesC
Orange and redA
-
And the snowbirds fleeD
Tossing up on the far brown fieldE
Now flashing and now concealedE
Like fringes of sprayF
That vanish and gleam on the grayF
Field of the seaD
-
Flickering lightG
Come the last of the leaves down borneH
And patches of pale white cornH
In the wind complainI
Like the slow rustle of rainI
Noticed by nightG
-
Withered and thinnedJ
The sentinel mullein loomsK
With the pale gray shadowy plumesK
Of the goldenrodL
And the milkweed opens its podL
Tempting the windM
-
Aloft on the hillN
A cloudrift opens and shinesO
Through a break in its gorget of pinesO
And it dreams at my feetP
In a sad silvery sheetP
Utterly stillN
-
All things that beD
Seem plunged into silence distraughtQ
By some stern some necessitous thoughtQ
It wraps and enthrallsO
Marsh meadow and forest and fallsO
Also on meD
