Witness Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABBA CDDC EFFE GHHG

Against the enormous rocks of a rough coastA
The ocean rams itself in pitched assaultB
And spastic rage to which there is no haltB
Foam white brigades collapse but the huge hostA
-
Has infinite reserves at each attackC
The impassive cliffs look down in gray disdainD
At scenes of sacrifice unrelieved painD
Figured in froth aquamarine and blackC
-
Something in the blood chemistry of lifeE
Unspeakable impressive undeterredF
Expresses itself without needing a wordF
In this sea crazed Empedoclean StrifeE
-
It is a scene of unmatched melancholyG
Weather of misery cloud cover of distressH
To which there are not witnesses unlessH
One counts the briny tough and thorned sea hollyG
