Third Avenue In Sunlight Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABABCDED DFDF GGGG GHGH IDID

Third Avenue in sunlight Nature's errorA
Already the bars are filled and John is thereB
Beneath a plentiful lady over the mirrorA
He tilts his glass in the mild mahogany airB
I think of him when he first got out of collegeC
Serious thin unlikely to succeedD
For several months he hung around the VillageE
Boldly T shirtet unfettered but unfreedD
-
Now he confides to a stranger I was first scoutD
And kept my glimmers peeled till after darkF
Our outfit had as its sign a bloody knoutD
We met behind the museum in Central ParkF
-
Of course we were kids But still those savagesG
War painted a flap of leather at the loinsG
File silently against him HostagesG
Are never taken One summer in Des MoinesG
-
They entered his hotel room tomahawksG
Flashing like barracuda He tried to prayH
Three years of treatment Occasionally he talksG
About how he almost didn't get awayH
-
Daily the prowling sunlight whets its knifeI
Along the sidewalk We almost never meetD
In the Rembrandt dark he lifts his amber lifeI
My bar is somewhat further down the streetD
