Clair De Lune Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABBA CDEC EFFG BFFB HFFH FEEF FFFF FBBF

Powder and scent and silence The young dwarfA
Shoulders his lute The moon is LevantineB
It settles its pearl in every glass of wineB
Harlequin is already at the wharfA
-
-
The gallant is masked A pressure of his thumbC
Communicates cutaneous interestD
On the smooth upward swelling of a breastE
A small black heart is fixed with spirit gumC
-
-
The thieving moment is now Deftly PierrotE
Exits bearing a tray of fruits and coinsF
A monkey chained by his tiny loinsF
Is taken aboard They let their moorings goG
-
-
Silence Even the god shall soon be goneB
Shadows in their cool tidal enterpriseF
Have eaten away his muscular stone thighsF
Moonlight edges across the empty lawnB
-
-
Taffeta whispers Someone is staring throughH
The white ribs of the pergola She staresF
At a small garnet pulse that disappearsF
Steadily seaward Ah my dear it is youH
-
-
But you are not alone A gardener goesF
Through the bone light about the dark estateE
He bows and cheerfully inebriateE
Admires the lunar ashes of a roseF
-
-
And sings to his imaginary lovesF
Wait You can hear him The familiar notesF
Drift toward the old moss bottomed fishing boatsF
Happy the heart that thinks of no removesF
-
-
This is your nightmare Those cold hands are yoursF
The pain in the drunken singing is your painB
Morning will taste of bitterness againB
The heart turns to a stone but it enduresF
