I'll sing a little ditty which	A
I trust you'll not think flat	B
Of a fine fat saucy Chinaman	C
Who lives on Ballarat	B
Whose pigtail is wound round his nut	B
In a tremendous plait	B
And who wears on most occasions	D
A mushroom looking hat	B

Like a fine fat saucy Chinaman	C
One of the present time	E

His tent is on the Red Hill and	B
He's fossicking all day	B
And though he takes what others leave	F
Contrives to make it pay	B
And sometimes gets big nuggets	G
As I've heard people say	B
For by dint of perseverance	H
He always pays his way	B

But the people on the diggings	H
Complain of him in shoals	H
They say he's always damaging	I
The splendid waterholes	H
And when they catch him at it	B
Into a rage they fly	J
But quot Welly good no sabby quot	B
Is all John will reply	J

There's an awful insurrection	C
In China now 'tis said	B
He comes away but finds here too	B
A price set on his head	B
But as the ten pound poll tax	H
He swears he will not stand	B
He goes on shore at Adelaide	B
And tramps it overland	B

Leads an industrious life	K
The greatest drawback that he has	H
Is that he has no wife	K
And as he is a bachelor	L
Of course he never pops	H
To spend his tin in any of	M
The millinery shops	H

I've not the slightest doubt	B
That ultimately Chinese girls	H
By thousands will come out	B
Of all sizes and complexions	H
To please both great and small	N
For John says that without a wife	K
He can't get on at all	N
