Winter Solstice Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABCDE FGH IJKLMAA NOPQ RECS T

When you startle awake in the dark morningA
heart pounding breathing fastB
sitting bolt upright staring intoC
dark whirlpool black holeD
feeling its suctionE
-
Get out of bedF
knock at the door of your nearest friendG
ask to lie down ask to be heldH
-
Listen while whispered wordsI
turn the hole into deep night skyJ
stars close togetherK
winter moon rising over white fieldsL
nearby wren rustling dry leavesM
distant owl echoingA
two people walking up the road laughingA
-
Let your soul laughN
let your heart sigh outO
that long held breath so hollow in your stomachP
so swollen in your throatQ
-
Already light is returning pairs of wingsR
lift softly off your eyelids one by oneE
each feathered edge clearer between youC
and the pearl veil of dayS
-
You have nothing to do but liveT
