Rhyme Scheme: ABAB CDCD ECFC GHCH IJKL MNON PKCK QKRK BST

You go my son to the battle fieldA
To repel the invading foeB
'Mid its fiercest conflicts never yieldA
Till death shall lay you lowB
-
Our God who smiles upon the RightC
And frowns upon the WrongD
Will nerve you for our holy fightC
And make your courage strongD
-
Our cause is just For it we prayE
At morning noon and nightC
Upon our banners we inscribeF
God Liberty and RightC
-
I love you as my lifeG
My dear beloved sonH
Your country calls go forth and fightC
Till Freedom's cause is wonH
-
It may be that you fall in deathI
Contending for your homeJ
Yet your aged mother will not beK
Forsaken though aloneL
-
A thousand generous hearts there areM
Throughout this sunny landN
Whose ample fortunes will be spentO
With an unsparing handN
-
Now go my son a mother's prayersP
Will ever follow theeK
And in the thickest of the fightC
Strike home for libertyK
-
On every hill in every glenQ
We'll fight till we are freeK
We'll fight till every limpid brookR
Runs crimson to the seaK
-
No truce we know till every foeB
Shall leave our hallowed sodS
And we regain that Heaven born boonT
'Freedom to worship God '-
