The Soldier's Grave Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABBA CDEC FGGH IJJI

Breathe not a whisper hereA
The place where thou dost stand is hallowed groundB
In silence gather near this upheaved moundB
Around the soldier's bierA
-
Here Liberty may weepC
And Freedom pause in her unchecked careerD
To pay the sacred tribute of a tearE
O'er the pale warrior's sleepC
-
That arm now cold in deathF
But late on glory's field triumphant boreG
Our country's flag that marble brow once boreG
The victor's fadeless wreathH
-
Rest soldier sweetly restI
Affection's gentle hand shall deck thy tombJ
With flowers and chaplets of unfading bloomJ
Be laid upon thy breastI
