The Slave Boy's Wish Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABCBDEFEBGHGIJKJLMNM OPQPRPMPSTBT

I wish I was that little birdA
Up in the bright blue skyB
That sings and flies just where he willC
And no one asks him whyB
I wish I was that little brookD
That runs so swift alongE
Through pretty flowers and shining stonesF
Singing a merry songE
I wish I was that butterflyB
Without a thought or careG
Sporting my pretty brilliant wingsH
Like a flower in the airG
I wish I was that wild wild deerI
I saw the other dayJ
Who swifter than an arrow flewK
Through the forest far awayJ
I wish I was that little cloudL
By the gentle south wind drivenM
Floating along so free and brightN
Far far up into heavenM
I'd rather be a cunning foxO
And hide me in a caveP
I'd rather be a savage wolfQ
Than what I am a slaveP
My mother calls me her good boyR
My father calls me braveP
What wicked action have I doneM
That I should be a slaveP
I saw my little sister soldS
So will they do to meT
My heavenly Father let me dieB
For then I shall be freeT
