The Slave-auction--a Fact Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABCB DEFE AGH IGJ KLM BNON PNAN QRGR

Why stands she near the auction standA
That girl so young and fairB
What brings her to this dismal placeC
Why stands she weeping thereB
-
Why does she raise that bitter cryD
Why hangs her head with shameE
As now the auctioneer's rough voiceF
So rudely calls her nameE
-
But see she grasps a manly handA
And in a voice so lowG
As scarcely to be heard she saysH
'My brother must I go '-
-
A moment's pause then midst a wailI
Of agonizing woeG
His answer falls upon the earJ
'Yes sister you must go '-
-
'No longer can my arm defendK
No longer can I saveL
My sister from the horrid fateM
That waits her as a SLAVE '-
-
Ah now I know why she is thereB
She came there to be soldN
That lovely form that noble mindO
Must be exchanged for goldN
-
O God my every heart string criesP
Dost thou these scenes beholdN
In this our boasted Christian landA
And must the truth be toldN
-
Blush Christian blush for e'en the darkQ
Untutored heathen seeR
Thy inconsistency and loG
They scorn thy God and theeR
