The Graybacks So Tenderly Clinging Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: AAAB CCCD EEEF GGGF

There were companions on the march as every soldier foundA
With ceaseless zeal in digging deep in every spot aroundA
And though each hero killed a lot still thousands more aboundA
The graybacks so tenderly clingingB
-
CHORUS O ho no no we never can forgetC
Ow ow ow ow we almost feel them yetC
The busy little grayback teeth in us so firmly setC
Who went with us Marching Through GeorgiaD
-
The visitors were never big in fact were very smallE
In silence they put in their work no sound they made at allE
They thought it was full fun enough to hear the comrades bawlE
While graybacks were busily biting CHORUSF
-
And never partial were those bugs no mortal would they spareG
No dignity could keep them off they just bit everywhereG
And generals could not deny but what each had a shareG
Of graybacks so constantly nibbling CHORUSF
