Yes raise me on your arm Dick DaleA
My comrade old and trueB
And let me of the glad earth takeC
One last and lingering viewB
When yet a few brief moments moreD
Of this flittering hour have fledE
You ll shed an old friend's tear Dick DaleA
Above your comrade's headE
-
We fought together side by sideF
In many a bloody frayG
From Malvern Hill's dark hour of strifeH
To fierce Antietam's dayG
And when again the 'long roll' callsI
For battle to prepareJ
You will not fail the flag Dick DaleA
But I shall not be thereJ
-
You will not soon forget me DickK
I know it by that sighL
I know it by those tears that shineM
In your half averted eyeL
But my dear old comrade's heart will swellN
I know with honest prideF
When he thinks that for the grand old flagO
His old companion diedF
-
Cut off this light brown lock Dick DaleA
For the girl that waits at homeP
Yes Hoping waits her soldier loveQ
Who never more can comeR
'Twill soothe perhaps her bleeding heartS
To know that watched by youB
The boy she loved at least has diedF
With one who loved him tooB
-
You'll visit all the quaint old nooksT
We sought when we were boysU
And thoughts of me will come Dick DaleA
With thoughts of childhood's joysU
And when you reach the old playgroundV
Where once you used to playG
You ll not forget your friend Dick DaleA
In his lone grave far awayG
