Who are the men that clamor mostA
Against the war its cause and costB
And who Jeff Davis sometimes toastA
The CopperheadsC
-
Who when by wretched whiskey tightD
Hiss out in rage their venomed spiteD
Who crawl and sting but never fightD
The CopperheadsC
-
Who hold peace meetings where they passE
Lengthy resolves of wind and gasE
Much like the bray of Balaam's assE
The CopperheadsC
-
Who when false faction is forgotF
When patriots keep a common thoughtG
Have discord and dissension taughtG
The CopperheadsC
-
Who swear by bondage and would seeH
Rather their country lost than freeH
Who dread the name of LibertyH
The CopperheadsC
-
Who hate a freedom loving pressI
The truth and all who it professI
Who don't believe in our successI
The CopperheadsC
-
And who when Right has won the dayJ
Will take their slimy selves awayJ
And in their dirty holes will stayJ
The CopperheadsC
-
And who will be the hiss and scornK
Of generations yet unbornK
Hated despised disgraced forlornK
The CopperheadsC
