By the sword of St MichaelB
The old dragon throughC
By David his slingD
And the giant he slewC
Let us write us a rhymeE
As a record to tellF
How the South on a timeE
Stormed the ramparts of HellF
With her barefooted boysG
-
IIA
-
Had the South in her borderH
A hero to spareI
Or a heart at her altarH
Lo its life's blood was thereI
And the black battle grimeE
Might never disguiseJ
The smile of the SouthK
On the lips and the eyesJ
Of her barefooted boysG
-
IIIA
-
There's a grandeur in fightL
And a terror the whileM
But none like the lightL
Of that terrible smileM
The smile of the SouthK
When the storm cloud unrollsG
The lightening that loosensG
The wrath in the soulsG
Of her barefooted boysG
-
IVN
-
It withered the foeN
Like the red light that runsG
Through the dead forest leavesG
And he fled from his gunsG
Grew the smile to a laughN
Rose the laugh to a yellF
As the iron clad hoofsG
Clattered back into HellF
From our barefooted boysG
