Spirit Of Freemen, Wake Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: AABCDCBEEFGGGFHHIJJJ IKKLMMML

Spirit of Freemen wakeA
No truce with Slavery makeA
Thy deadly foeB
In fair disguises dressedC
Too long hast thou caress dD
The serpent in thy breastC
Now lay him lowB
Must e en the press be dumbE
Must truth itself succumbE
And thoughts be muteF
Shall law be set asideG
The right of prayer deniedG
Nature and God decriedG
And man called bruteF
What lover of her fameH
Feels not his country s shameH
In this dark hourI
Where are the patriots nowJ
Of honest heart and browJ
Who scorn the neck to bowJ
To Slavery s PowerI
Sons of the Free we callK
On you in field and hallK
To rise as oneL
Your heaven born rights maintainM
Nor let Oppression s chainM
On human limbs remainM
Speak and t is doneL
