Song Of A Brigadier Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABCBDEFE GHIHJKLE MNO PEQE CRSRTEUE VFWXYEZE A2WB2WC2ED2E

I wear a splendid uniformA
I ride a splendid nagB
I talk both loud and valiantlyC
Of Honor and the FlagB
But let the South be easy stillD
Her soldiers need not fearE
Ne'er shot nor blow shall lay them lowF
While I'm a BrigadierE
-
I canter gaily through the streetsG
Attended by my staffH
Unheeding vulgar little boysI
Who hoot and stare and chaffH
And such a staff all foreign namesJ
Quite wonderful to hearK
Plain Yankee boys aren't good enoughL
For such a BrigadierE
-
I've Baron This and Duke of ThatM
And Prince of 'Tother tooN
The people ask me 'What on earthO
I have for them to do '-
'Tis plain to all but vulgar mindsP
I want a kindred sphereE
There's nought like title blood and styleQ
To aid a BrigadierE
-
No bloody wounds or hurts for meC
Perhaps I am a shamR
But Politics and InfluenceS
Have placed me where I amR
I give my dinners draw my payT
Drink brandy wine or beerE
And mean to have a jolly timeU
While I'm a BrigadierE
-
Investigations pass me byV
Committees raise no rowF
No one expects that I will fightW
And faith I don't know howX
I'm not for use but ornamentY
So each day I appearE
In buttons braid in gold arrayedZ
A fancy BrigadierE
-
There are plenty in the fieldA2
Who really like to fightW
Give me money and good clothesB2
And I'll be harmless quiteW
Yet there is something on my mindC2
That I can't quite make clearE
How can the Government affordD2
My style of BrigadierE
