Rebels Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABCCB ADCCD AEAAE AFGGF ADHHD AIJJI AKLLK MANOA

Rebels 't is a holy nameA
The name our fathers boreB
When battling in the cause of RightC
Against the tyrant in his mightC
In the dark days of yoreB
-
Rebels 't is our family nameA
Our father WashingtonD
Was the arch rebel in the fightC
And gave the name to use a rightC
Of father unto sonD
-
Rebels 't is our given nameA
Our mother LibertyE
Received the title with her fameA
In days of grief of fear and shameA
When at her breast were weE
-
Rebels 't is our sealed nameA
A baptism of bloodF
The war aye and the din of strifeG
The fearful contest life for lifeG
The mingled crimson floodF
-
Rebels 't is a patriot's nameA
In struggles it was givenD
We bore it then when tyrants ravedH
And through their curses 't was engravedH
On the doomsday book of heavenD
-
Rebels 't is our fighting nameA
For peace rules o'er the landI
Until they speak of craven woeJ
Until our rights receive a blowJ
From foe's or brother's handI
-
Rebels 't is our dying nameA
For although life is dearK
Yet freemen born and freemen bredL
We'd rather live as freemen deadL
Than live in slavish fearK
-
Then call us rebels if you willM
We glory in the nameA
For bending under unjust lawsN
And swearing faith to an unjust causeO
We count a greater shameA
