Knitting Socks Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: AABBCCAADDEEDDAAFFGG HHIJKKLLMMNNNNNNCOPP QQ

CLICK click how the needles goA
Through the busy fingers to and froA
With no bright colors of berlin woolB
Delicate hands today are fullB
Only a yarn of deep dull blueC
Socks for the feet of the brave and trueC
Yet click click how the needles goA
'Tis a power within that nerves them soA
In the sunny hours of the bright spring dayD
And still in the night time far awayD
Maiden mother grandame sitE
Earnest and thoughtful while they knitE
Many the silent prayers they prayD
Many the tear drops brushed awayD
While busy on the needles goA
Widen and narrow heel and toeA
The grandame thinks with a thrill of prideF
How her mother knit and spun besideF
For that patriot band in olden daysG
Who died the Stars and Stripes to raiseG
Now she in turn knits for the braveH
Who'd die that glorious flag to saveH
She is glad she says ''the boys' have goneI
'Tis just as their grandfathers would have doneJ
But she heaves a sigh and the tears will startK
For 'the boys' were the pride of grandame's heartK
The mother's look is calm and highL
God only hears her soul's deep cryL
In Freedom's name at Freedom's callM
She gave her sons in them her allM
The maiden's cheek wears a paler shadeN
But the light in her eyes is undismayedN
Faith and hope give strength to her sightN
She sees a red dawn after the nightN
Oh soldiers brave will it brighten the dayN
And shorten the march on the weary wayN
To know that at home the loving and trueC
Are knitting and hoping and praying for yourO
Soft are the voices when speaking your nameP
Proud are their glories when hearing your fameP
And the gladdest hour in their lives will beQ
When they greet you after the victoryQ
