I am an AbolitionistA
I glory in the nameB
Though now by Slavery s minions hiss dC
And covered o er with shameB
It is a spell of light and powerD
The watchword of the freeC
Who spurns it in the trial hourD
A craven soul is heC
-
-
I am an AbolitionistA
Then urge me not to pauseE
For joyfully do I enlistF
In Freedom s sacred causeG
A nobler strife the world ne er sawH
Th enslaved to disenthralI
I am a soldier for the warJ
Whatever may befallI
-
-
I am an AbolitionistA
Oppression s deadly foeK
In God s great strength will I resistF
And lay the monster lowK
In God s great name do I demandL
To all be freedom givenM
That peace and joy may fill the landL
And songs go up to heavenM
-
-
I am an AbolitionistA
No threats shall awe my soulI
No perils cause me to desistF
No bribes my acts controlI
A freeman will I live and dieN
In sunshine and in shadeO
And raise my voice for libertyC
Of nought on earth afraidO
