The devil we're told in hell was chainedA
and a thousand years he there remainedA
and he never complained nor did he groanB
but determined to start a hell of his ownB
where he could torment the souls of menC
without being chained to a prison penC
-
So he asked the lord if he had on handD
anything left when he made the landD
The lord said 'yes i had plenty on handD
but i left it down on the Rio GrandeD
The fact is old boy the stuff is so poorE
i don't think you can use it in hell anymore '-
-
But the devil went down to look at the truckF
and said if it came as a gift he was stuckF
for after examining it careful and wellG
he concluded the place was too dry for hellG
So in order to get it off his handsH
god promised the devil to water the landsH
-
For he had some water or rather some dregsI
a regular cathartic that smelt like bad eggsI
Hence the deal was closed and the deed was givenJ
and the lord went back to his place in heavenJ
and the devil said 'i have all that is neededK
to make a good hell ' And thus he succeededK
-
He began to put thorns on all the treesL
and he mixed the sand with millions of fleasL
he scattered tarantulas along all the roadsM
put thorns on the cacti and horns on the toadsM
he lengthened the horns of the texas steersN
and put an addition on jack rabbit's earsN
-
He put little devils in the bronco steedO
and poisoned the feet of the centipedeO
The rattlesnake bites you the scorpion stingsP
the mosquito delights you by buzzing his wingsP
The sand burrs prevail so do the antsQ
and those that sit down need half soles on their pantsQ
-
The devil then said that throughout the landD
he'd manage to keep up the devil's own brandD
and all would be mavericks unless they boreR
the marks and scratches and bites by the scoreR
The heat in the summer is a hundred and tenC
too hot for the devil and too hot for menC
-
The wild boar roams through the black chaparralS
it's a hell of a place he has for hellG
the red pepper grows by the bank of the brookT
the Mexicans use it in all that they cookT
Just dine with a greaser and then you will shoutU
'I ve a hell on the inside as well as without '-
