Rhyme Scheme: ABABCD E EACD FGFHCD IJIJKD FLFLCD IFIFCD

Let waiting throngs now lift their voicesA
As Freedom's glorious day draws nearB
While every gentle tongue rejoicesA
And each bold heart is filled with cheerB
The slave has seen the Northern starC
He'll soon be free hurrah hurrahD
-
Though many still are writhing underE
The cruel whips of 'chevaliers '-
Who mothers from their children sunderE
And scourge them for their helpless tearsA
Their safe deliverance is not farC
The day draws nigh hurrah hurrahD
-
Just ere the dawn the darkness deepestF
Surrounds the earth as with a pallG
Dry up thy tears O thou that weepestF
That on thy sight the rays may fallH
No doubt let now thy bosom marC
Send up the shout hurrah hurrahD
-
Shall we distrust the God of HeavenI
He every doubt and fear will quellJ
By him the captive's chains are rivenI
So let us loud the chorus swellJ
Man shall be free from cruel lawK
Man shall be MAN hurrah hurrahD
-
No more again shall it be grantedF
To southern overseers to ruleL
No more will pilgrims' sons be tauntedF
With cringing low in slavery's schoolL
So clear the way for Freedom's carC
The free shall rule hurrah hurrahD
-
Send up the shout EmancipationI
From heaven let the echoes boundF
Soon will it bless this franchised nationI
Come raise again the stirring soundF
Emancipation near and farC
Swell up the shout hurrah hurrahD
