Confederate Memorial Day Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABCB DEFE GEFE HIJK LMNM

The marching armies of the pastA
Along our Southern plainsB
Are sleeping now in quiet restC
Beneath the Southern rainsB
-
The bugle call is now in vainD
To rouse them from their bedE
To arms they'll never march againF
They are sleeping with the deadE
-
No more will Shiloh's plains be stainedG
With blood our heroes shedE
Nor Chancellorsville resound againF
To our noble warriors' treadE
-
For them no more shall reveilleH
Sound at the break of dawnI
But may their sleep peaceful beJ
Till God's great judgment mornK
-
We bow our heads in solemn prayerL
For those who wore the grayM
And clasp again their unseen handsN
On our Memorial DayM
