By And By Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABCBADEF GHIJADK LMCMNDC OPCPQDC

Was the parting very bitterA
Was the hand clasped very tightB
Is a storm of tear drops fallingC
From a face all sad and whiteB
Think not of it in the futureA
Calmer fairer days are nighD
Gaze not backward but look onwardE
For a sunny 'by and by 'F
-
Was the priceless love you lavishedG
Sought for played with and then slainH
Were its crushed and quivering remnantsI
Calmly thrown you back againJ
Calmly too those remnants gatherA
Bring them home without a sighD
Sweet returns they yet shall bring youK
In the coming 'by and by '-
-
Are the eyelids very heavyL
Does the tired head long for restM
Are the temples hot and throbbingC
And the hands together pressedM
Hope shall lay you on her bosomN
Cool the poor lips parched and dryD
And shall whisper 'Rest is comingC
Rest forever 'by and by '-
-
And when calmed and cheered and freshenedO
By her soul inspiring voiceP
Then look up the heavens are brighteningC
Cease your wailing and rejoiceP
Cry not for the days departedQ
None wil hear you none replyD
But look up where light is breakingC
O'er a brighter 'by and by '-
