Aladdin poor the wizard foundA
Who moved from cavern s mouth a stoneB
Then bade him go beneath the groundA
And pace through unknown realms aloneB
Till from a niche he bore awayC
A lamp extinguishing its rayC
-
-
The youth obedient instant hiedA
When fruits luxuriant met his sightA
The white were pearls in snowy prideA
Diamonds the clear of brilliant lightA
For red the rubies dazzling blazedA
Whereof Aladdin gathered storeD
Then on the lamp in rapture gazedA
And from its niche the treasure boreD
-
-
Regained his home he seized anonB
The lamp and cried straight bring me foodA
The Genii instantly was goneB
But soon again before him stoodA
The youth his fear struck mother boreD
As plates of silver met his viewE
Of viands choice containing storeD
And cups with wine of rosy hueE
-
-
Aladdin next by chance descriedA
The Sultan s daughter witching fairF
Love s high control was not deniedA
He sought to gain the beauty rareF
Before the Sultan lowly bentA
His mother and the jewels spreadA
The Prince astonished gave consentA
And all Aladdin s terrors fledA
-
-
In gorgeous robes the youth arrayedA
Vaulted anon his prancing steedA
And of the glittering gay paradeA
Right joyous smiling took the leadA
With loud huzzas then rang the airF
Which louder pealed as gold amainB
By slaves was cast for mob to shareF
That glittered on the vasty plainB
-
-
Ne er dreaming lamp so worn and oldA
More worth commanded than PeruE
Our Princess bartered wealth untoldA
For the Magician s lamp quite newE
So when this change the eunuch madeA
In scorn the rabble gan to shoutA
Beholding such a silly tradeA
They deemed the wizard fool and loutA
-
O erwhelmed with grief Aladdin prayedA
Once more the Genii life would spareF
Beseeching he might be conveyedA
Where late had stood his palace fairF
Then swift as thought the spirit boreD
The youth through airy realms aboveG
Who lighted safe on Afric s shoreD
And gained the chamber of his loveG
-
-
His foe the poison quaffed and fellH
A writhing form the wizard layC
Aladdin knew how worked the spellH
And tore from vest the lamps his preyC
The Princess with a panting heartA
Flew to receive affection s kissI
Thus met they never more to partA
From that hour sealed their lasting blisI
