To Death Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis
Rhyme Scheme: AABBCCDDEEFFGGAAO King of Terrors whose unbounded Sway | A |
All that have Life must certainly Obey | A |
The King the Priest the Prophet all are Thine | B |
Nor wou'd ev'n God in Flesh thy Stroke decline | B |
My Name is on thy Roll and sure I must | C |
Encrease thy gloomy Kingdom in the Dust | C |
My soul at this no Apprehension feels | D |
But trembles at thy Swords thy Racks thy Wheels | D |
Thy scorching Fevers which distract the Sense | E |
And snatch us raving unprepar'd from hence | E |
At thy contagious Darts that wound the Heads | F |
Of weeping Friends who wait at dying Beds | F |
Spare these and let thy Time be when it will | G |
My Bus'ness is to Dye and Thine to Kill | G |
Gently thy fatal Sceptre on me lay | A |
And take to thy cold Arms insensibly thy Prey | A |
