The Tree Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: AABBCDEEFFGGHIBBJJKK LMNNFFOOPPQQ

Fair tree for thy delightful shadeA
'Tis just that some return be madeA
Sure some return is due from meB
To thy cool shadows and to theeB
When thou to birds dost shelter giveC
Thou music dost from them receiveD
If travellers beneath thee stayE
Till storms have worn themselves awayE
That time in praising thee they spendF
And thy protecting pow'r commendF
The shepherd here from scorching freedG
Tunes to thy dancing leaves his reedG
Whilst his lov'd nymph in thanks bestowsH
Her flow'ry chaplets on thy boughsI
Shall I then only silent beB
And no return be made by meB
No let this wish upon thee waitJ
And still to flourish be thy fateJ
To future ages may'st thou standK
Untouch'd by the rash workman's handK
Till that large stock of sap is spentL
Which gives thy summer's ornamentM
Till the fierce winds that vainly striveN
To shock thy greatness whilst aliveN
Shall on thy lifeless hour attendF
Prevent the axe and grace thy endF
Their scatter'd strength together callO
And to the clouds proclaim thy fallO
Who then their ev'ning dews may spareP
When thou no longer art their careP
But shalt like ancient heroes burnQ
And some bright hearth be made thy urnQ
