Rhyme Scheme: ABAB CDCE FGFH IJIJ KLKL

FOR Socrates a House was builtA
Of but inferiour SizeB
Not highly Arch'd nor Carv'd nor GiltA
The Man 'tis said was WiseB
-
But Mob despis'd the little CellC
That struck them with no FearD
Whilst Others thought there should not dwellC
So great a Person thereE
-
How shou'd a due Recourse be madeF
To One so much Admir'dG
Where shou'd the spacious Cloth be laidF
Or where the Guests retir'dH
-
Believe me quoth the list'ning SageI
'Twas not to save the ChargeJ
That in this over building AgeI
My House was not more largeJ
-
But this for faithful Friends and kindK
Was only meant by meL
Who fear that what too streight you findK
Must yet contracted beL
